Welcome to the first step of our journey to Step Lighter
If we want to avoid the advice and products that don't work, from people selling us weight loss, we have to find our way out of the hype!
Did you know that HYPE has a best friend? It's called FEAR. They always hang out together.
If we're going achieve a lighter step, we need to show those two the door!
This is one of the most important things I learned as I began to lose the excess weight: My body is NOT the enemy, and if I try to pummel it into submission, I'm going to have a battle on my hands. And that battle will go on and on for years.
It makes serious sense to work with your body, not against it. Being in constant conflict with our own body, causes all sorts of trouble in the end - exhaustion, lost zing, stress, injury, illness - a lack of success in weight loss - or all of these.
The HYPE will insist that we see those numbers fall on the scale as soon as possible. If the numbers stay the same, or increase, then FEAR comes quickly, panicking us into battling our poor body, punishing it for not losing weight quickly enough!
Several years ago, I began to change the way I thought about weight loss. I realized that my body needed to be ALLOWED to lose its weight with gentle coaxing. That was hard for me. No one is telling you that! I had to keep a level head, be patient and try to relax through the whole thing. In fact, for over 5 weeks I saw nothing, absolutely nothing, change on that scale! And then one day I saw that I had lost 2 pounds. I thought it was a blip and that those two pounds would be right back, in a couple of days. But that didn't happen! Each month after that, more pounds were shed and I dropped dress sizes until I reached a weight I was happy with.
Now, if I find I've gained a couple of pounds over the months, I make very small adjustments and my body does the rest without any trouble at all. My weight is always in the normal range for my height.
The journey to step lighter is a kind and gentle one. I believe that if it isn't, your body will panic and cling on to the weight with an iron grip.
So for now, if you're joining us on our journey, remember to relax and make an ally of your body. It wants the best for you and will help you no end if you'll only treat it gently and kindly.
